About Mike Brand

I'm an Aussie with a Canadian accent. That is to say, I spent the formative years of my linguistic life in Canada, before moving to Australia when I was nine. Because of this I always have to explain my history to people when I introduce myself as "from Sydney." My family moved southward when my dad got a job with the Aussie government.
As far as education I briefly studied communications at The University of Western Sydney, which was interesting; I got to learn a lot about topics ranging from semiotics to advertising to how malls work. Eventually I found my way to The University of Sydney where I'm doing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Digital Cultures. Recently, I got back from an exchange to the University of Maastricht, so I'm pretty well travelled.
I have, like any normal person, a range of interests. From the subjects I'm majoring in you can probably figure out that they are mainly to do with psychology and media. I do like to consider myself a bit of a design nerd though, so I'm also interested in things like fontography. Combining these three things, one of my favourite areas is usability, or how to make things and web pages easier for people to use.
